Microsoft 365 price changes in 2026: what you need to know now

In 2026, Microsoft is adjusting the prices and capabilities of Microsoft 365. First, there's good news with a temporary price drop; later, new features and a general price increase will follow. For organizations that manage their licenses smartly, this creates an important decision point right now.

Temporary price drop starting February 2026

From February 1, 2026, Microsoft is lowering Commercial Cloud prices in local currencies. For the eurozone, this amounts to an average decrease of around 7.4%. The exact change varies by license, but for many companies this results in a direct saving.

This price drop also serves as the basis for ongoing promotions, including for Microsoft Copilot. That lowers the entry barrier for rolling out Copilot more broadly across teams and departments.

Why timing is crucial

The price reduction is temporary. Microsoft confirmed that further price increases will follow later in 2026. Organizations that renew or expand their licenses before the summer can often lock in the lower price for several years. That provides predictability and protection against future increases.

This makes it the ideal moment to:

  • Critically evaluate license usage

  • Reduce overcapacity

  • Upgrade in a targeted way to licenses with more functionality

New capabilities and price increase starting July 2026

From July 1, 2026, Microsoft is expanding the content of various licenses. Think extra email storage, more security functionality, and broader device management capabilities. At the same time, this comes with a general price increase.

This combination makes it important to already think about:

  • Which add-ons will become redundant

  • Which licenses will offer more value

  • How best to plan renewals
